The main goal of the project is reducing fuel consumption in district heating system, in particular natural gas (which is imported to Ukraine), and electricity consumption by means of centralized heat supply system rehabilitation in Donetsk city, which includes replacement and rehabilitation of boilers and heat distribution network equipment, as well as installation of heat recovery units and frequency controllers.

2) "Implementation of Energy Saving Measures at PJSC "Lysychanskiy Glass Factory "Proletary", Ukraine.

The project's purpose is to reduce anthropogenic emissions by using alternative energy resources in the course of company's production activity and its modernization using up-to-date technologies. Alternative energy resources include effluent furnace gases of glass-melting furnaces are used for additional heat generation, which would be generated by old boilers in steam boiler-houses in case of project's absence. In addition, the project's purpose is to reduce emissions of anthropogenic emissions by company modernization, which provides introducing of new technologies in the production of float glass, and results in reduction in energy use by reducing specific fuel and electricity consumption for production of a unit of output.

5) "Technical revamping and modernization aimed at increase in energy efficiency of PJSC "Rubezhnoye cardboard and package mill"

The main purpose of the project is:
1) Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions due to energy efficiency activities:
  • modernization (replacement) of obsolete and worn-out pumping, ventilation equipment, general-purpose engines to high-efficiency, energy-saving analogues (foreign and domestic ones), to ensure lower electricity consumption in the course of further operations:
  • modernization of motor drives of cardboard and paper machines
  • installation of frequency regulators
  • modernization of TPP.
2) GHG emission reductions through installation of a cogeneration plant.
The project implementation will lead to better efficiency in electricity and fossil fuel consumption, which will cause a reduction of GHG emissions against the current practice.
6) "Implementation of the energy efficiency measures at SE "Malyshev Plant", Ukraine.

The purpose of the project is implementation and use of more efficient production technologies and equipment at SE "Malyshev Plant". As a result, the project will increase the efficiency of energy consumption and energy use that will lead to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emission against the current practice.

The project aims to improve the reliability and quality of electrical and thermal energy supply to the different groups of consumers of the Ural Federal District by the use of modern technologies that reduce pollution, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

8) "Modernization of the heat supply system in Mykolaiv region", Ukraine.

The project provides for the complex modernization of the heat supply system in Mykolaiv city and Mykolaiv region in order to increase fuel consumption efficiency by using equipment and manufacturing technologies with higher energy efficiency. As a result, the project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared with the current practice.

9) "Energy efficiency improvement at Novoyavorivska TPP by reequipment thereof", Ukraine.

Consultants of VEMA S.A. participated in the development of this JI project.

The purpose of the project is implementation of combined heat and power production at existing boiler in Novoyavorivsk city, Lviv region.
The project provides for commissioning of a new steam turbine Р-4-21/3, generator T-4-2UZ and steam turbine Р-6-35/3, generator T-6-2UZ and gas turbine installation (GTI) DZh 59 LZ. Commissioning of these steam turbines and GTIs would allow of generation of thermal energy as a by-product of electricity production. Thus, the project activity will result in substantial GHG emission reductions due to substitution of electricity from the grid and thermal energy.

Gas industry

1) "Reduction of Greenhouse Gases Emissions by Gasification of Odesa Region", Ukraine.

The main goal of the project is reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by changing the structure of fuel consumption in industrial, municipal, administrative and private sectors of Odesa region by replacing solid and liquid fuels with natural gas. The project envisages construction and expansion of gas distribution systems (GDS) of Odesa region, which will also improve the energy efficiency of thermal power generation due to the transition of existing thermal power plants to natural gas, and installation of individual heating and hot water supply systems characterized by better efficiency compared to centralized systems.

2) "Reduction of greenhouse gases emissions by gasification of Mariupol city", Ukraine.

The main purpose of the project is reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by changing the structure of fuel consumption in industrial, utility, administrative and private sectors of Mariupol city by replacing solid and liquid fuels with natural gas. The project provides for the construction and expansion of gas distribution systems (GDS) of Mariupol city, which will also improve the energy efficiency of thermal power generation due to the transition of existing heating systems to natural gas. The project that is initiated by PJSC "Mariupolgaz" will result in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere and improve the environmental situation in the region.

3) "Reduction of greenhouse gases emissions by gasification of Kyiv", Ukraine.

The purpose of the project is switching to more environmentally friendly fuel by energy supply system modernization in Kyiv. As a result of the project implementation there will be increase in the efficiency of fuel consumption and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions compared to current practice.

Coal industry

1) "Utilization of Coal Mine Methane at the Coal Mine named after A.F. Zasyadko"

The project's purpose is the avoidance of methane emissions into the atmosphere at Leasing Company "Mine named after A.F. Zasyadko", drained and recovered in the operating mine as well as methane produced by surface wells at Zasyadko Mine, is used to (i) produce electricity for mine works and the surplus is fed into the public grid thus reducing and avoiding methane emissions in the atmosphere; (ii) to replace heat currently produced by coal- and gas-fired boilers, including municipal boilers; and (iii) to produce gas for use as vehicle fuel.

2) "Implementation of the energy efficiency measures and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere at State Enterprise «Сoal Company "Krasnolimanska", Ukraine.

3) "Development and improvement of water supply system, drainage system and wastewater treatment of City Communal Enterprise "Mykolayivvodokanal", Ukraine.

The project's main purpose is reduction of electric energy consumption by modernization and development of centralized water supply, drainage and wastewater treatment systems. This includes replacement and modernization of pumps, water distribution and drainage networks, installation of frequency regulators, optimization of the technological process of water pumping, introduction of mini hydropower station in the city of Mykolayiv. The implementation of the abovementioned technologies will allow for reduction of greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions and promote sustainable development of the city.

Natural gas (СН4) leakage

1) "Reduction of Natural Gas Emissions at OJSC "Odesagas" Gate Stations and Gas Distribution Networks", Ukraine.

The main purpose of the project is reduction of natural gas (methane) leakage in gas-distribution posts, and in cabinet gas-distribution posts. The main sources of leakage are junctions of the elements of GDP and cabinet gas-distribution posts CGDP. Repair of leaking junctions of GDP and CGDP elements within the scope of this project vary from replacement of gaskets and wedge plugs, use of new sealants or compacting hermetic materials (such as Gore-Tex), to capital repair and replacement of safety valves of pressure regulators, piston rods, installation of natural gas gauges.

2) "Reduction of Methane Emissions at Flanged, Threaded Joints and Shut-down Devices of OJSC "Odesagas" Equipment", Ukraine.

The main purpose of the project is reduction of natural gas leakage at gas transport and gas distribution infrastructure of JSC Odesagas. The main sources of leakage are switch mechanisms (bolts, cocks, valves), flange and threaded joints of gas pipelines of JSC Odesagas in the amount of 11 174 pieces. The main reason for natural gas leakage is quick failure of sealant elements. Elimination of all detected leakages by repairs of leaking equipment under this project vary from replacement of gaskets and wedge valves, use of new compactors or sealing materials, to capital repairs and replacement of safety valves of pressure regulators and piston rods.

The main purpose of the project is reduction of natural gas leakage at gas transport and gas distribution infrastructure of OJSC "Kyivgas". The main sources of leakage are switch mechanisms (bolts, cocks,valves), flange and threaded joints of gas pipelines of OJSC "Kyivgas" in the amount of 60 613pieces. The main reason for natural gas leakage is quick failure of sealant elements. Elimination of all detected leakages: repairs of leaking equipment under this project vary from replacement of gaskets and wedge valves, use of new compactors or sealing materials, to capital repairs and replacement of equipment.

4) "Reduction of Methane Emissions on the Gas Equipment of Gas-distributing Points and on the Gas Armature of Gas-distributing Networks of CJSC "Theodosia", Ukraine

The main purpose of the project is reduction of the natural gas emissions at gas-transport and gas-distributing infrastructure of CJSC "Theodosia", which are the result of leakage from gas equipment and gas armature. The elimination of methane emissions from gas equipment and gas armature is performed through three types of repairs used:
1. Complete substitution of out-of-date and morally threadbare gas equipment and gas armature by new units.
2. Repair of gas equipment components and gas armature;
3. Replacement of pressure-sealing elements with the use of modern sealing materials, changing practice of service and repair, that has become common, on the basis of paronite gaskets, and also sealing stuffing of cotton fibres with fatty impregnation and asbestos-graphite filler.

5) "Reduction of Methane Emissions on the Gas Equipment of Gas-distributing Points and on the Gas Armature of Gas-distributing Networks of PJSC "Mariupolgaz", Ukraine.

The main purpose of the project is reduction of the natural gas emissions at gas-transport and gas-distributing infrastructure of PJSC «Mariupolgaz», which are the result of leakage from gas equipment and gas armature. Removal of the emissions is performed through repairs of gas equipment of GDP (CGDP) and gas armature at gas pipelines: replacement of sealing elements or pressure-sealing, major repairs and replacement of gas equipment and gas armature by new, modern equipment.

Waste management

1) "Collection and utilization of methane at the solid waste landfill in Athens", Greece.

The aim of the project is to introduce energy saving technology of collection and utilization of energy potential of landfill gas (LFG) formed due to anaerobic decomposition of organic waste at a solid waste disposal site (SWDS) in the city of Athens, Greece. The project provides for the construction of 1300 gas collecting wells for capturing landfill gas which should cover 95 % waste collected.

2) "Landfill gas recovery in Tagarades, with its further utilization in cogeneration equipment", Greece.

The aim of the project is to introduce energy saving technology of collection and utilization of energy potential of landfill gas (LFG) formed due to anaerobic decomposition of organic waste at a solid waste disposal site (SWDS) of the Thessaloniki city. The solid waste disposal site is located in the village of Tagarades.


Distribution grids

1) "Reconstruction and modernization of main-line electrical grids of NPC "Ukrenergo", Ukraine.

The main purpose of the project is the implementation of the program on the technical improvement of electrical networks and equipment, advanced technologies implementation, the transition to a higher level of organization of transmission and distribution of electric energy. Implementation of the measures under the project will allow for improvement of the reliability and efficiency of electricity transmission main-lines of NPC "Ukrenergo", this in turn will help reduce the amount of electricity that is lost during transport thereof to the distribution electrical grids, so the production of electricity at thermal power plants will decrease and correspondingly to current practice.

Renewable energy

1) "Utilization of Bio-Gas for Heat and Power Generation at Pig Farms of Chervona Zirka Farming Economy, Agrofirma Shakhtar Subsidiary, Lease Enterprise Mine named after A.F.Zasyadko", Ukraine.

The purpose of the project is prevention of the methane air emissions, formed in the course of anaerobic disintegration of organic substances contained in animal manures. The project provides for construction and operation of a biogas plant at farms of «Chervona Zirka Farming Economy, Agrofirma Shakhtar Subsidiary, Lease Enterprise Mine named after A.F.Zasyadko».

2) "Construction of bioethanol production plant in the city of Zolotonosha", Ukraine.

The objective of the project is to prevent leakage of greenhouse gases that were formed in the process of combustion of fossil fuel by internal combustion engines (highway transport) into the atmosphere. Bioethanol as a fuel is neutral as a source of greenhouse gases. It has a zero balance of carbon dioxide because the quantity of CO2 that releases during its production by fermentation and subsequent combustion is equal to the quantity of CO2 that was devoured from the atmosphere by plants for its production. In the result of project implementation emissions caused by fossil fuel combustion by highway transport and emissions caused by petroleum production will be reduced.


Other

1) "Reducing CO2 emissions by systemic utilization of No-till technologies in agricultural industry", Ukraine.

The purpose of the project is to reduce anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by means of changing the agricultural land management system, namely replacement of traditional soil tillage in agriculture with No-till technology. Emissions are reduced due to lower (almost zero) topsoil disturbance by tillage and, as a result, higher carbon sequestration (storage) in the soil by plants that take carbon from the atmosphere and transfer it into the soil (with further fixation in the soil) in the course of their biological activity. The project also envisages a decrease of fossil fuel (diesel fuel) consumption due to shorter land cultivation cycle. In addition, water consumption for field irrigation is expected to drop which is important since Donetsk region suffers from water shortage.

2) "Utilization of associated petroleum gas at the "Keymir" oil and gas condensate field", Turkmenistan.

The project provides for the implementation of plants at Keymir oil-field that would allow for utilization of gas that is usually flared and supply thereof to a gas-collecting station of Keymir oil field into flow of natural gas and further via installation of complex preparation of gas at Akpanlauk oil field into the gas pipeline, as well as use of the part of associated petroleum gas for the company's own needs.

3) "Utilization of associated petroleum gas at the "Khazar" oil and gas condensate field", Turkmenistan.

The project provides for the installation of a Boosting Compressor Station (BCS) at the Khazar field. The BCS is designed for utilization of associated petroleum gas from the offshore Khazar field and supply thereof to the SATs-III pipeline as well as use of the part of associated petroleum gas for the company's own needs.

4) "Utilization of associated gas at the "Goturdepe" gas turbine power plant", Turkmenistan.

The project provides for the construction of a gas turbine power plant with a design capacity of 7 MW at the Goturdepe oilfield. This "Goturdepe" gas turbine power plant is intended to supply electricity to the BCS "Goturdepe". 190 872 thousand m3/year of associated gas that is flared in the baseline scenario, will be used at the BCS "Goturdepe". Thus, as a result of the project activities almost 191 million m3 of gas per year will be utilized and significant GHG emission reductions will be achieved.

5) "Utilization of associated gas at the "Barsagelmes" gas turbine power plant", Turkmenistan.

The project provides for the construction of a gas turbine power plant with a design capacity of 7 MW at the Barsagelmes oilfield. This "Barsagelmes" gas turbine power plant is intended to supply electricity to the BCS "Serdar". 190 872 thousand m3/year of associated gas that is flared in the baseline scenario, will be used at the BCS "Barsagelmes". Thus, as a result of the project activities almost 191 million m3 of gas per year will be utilized and significant GHG emission reductions will be achieved.

6) "Reduction of CO2 emissions by systematic utilization of No-till technology at Ltd "Оbriy-МТS-Rozdylna" farmlands", Ukraine.

Consultants of VEMA S.A. participated in the development of this JI project.
The purpose of the project is to reduce anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the course of crop production by using the implementation and further systematic application of No-till technology.
Emissions are reduced due to:
• reduction the destruction of the surface layer of soil in the process of crops growing, resulting in reduction GHG emissions of these lands;
• reduction of diesel fuel which is burned by tractors and agricultural machines in the technological process of production using the new technology.

7) "Implementation of activities aimed at reduction of perfluorocarbon emissions from aluminium production at OJSC "Syberia-Ural Aluminium Company", branch "Volgograd Aluminium Smelter of Syberia-Ural Aluminium Company.

The main purpose of the project is to reduce energy consumption and perfluorocarbon (PFC) emissions in the course of aluminium production. This can be achieved by means of a complex of organizational and technological activities and implementation of cutting-edge technologies at OJSC "Syberia-Ural Aluminium Company", branch "Volgograd Aluminium Smelter of Siberia-Ural Aluminium Company".


8) "Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by application of No-till technology at LLC "Sintal Agro Trade" farmlands", Ukraine.

The project is initiated for the purpose of improvement of the environment in the region and implementation of innovative technologies such as No-till technology, which would provide an opportunity to abandon conventional tillage technology. This practice causes a steady decrease of humus content in the soil, which, in turn, leads to higher GHG emissions into the atmosphere.
